Wailua Beach

Hanalei Bay

A large, wind-swept beach with the river mouth of the Wailua river feeding into it. Surfers frequently flock here to enjoy the wind-swells. The often murky waters here offer limited activities for the novice as well as limited parking. Roadside parking. No facilities.

Wailua is easy to access and centrally located.

Hazards

Strong currents. Powerful waves breaking on sandbars.

Topography

Sandy shoreline. Mostly sandy underwater.

Not Good For

Snorkeling - areas with sand bottom are not good for snorkeling because there is no reef to support a variety of fish.
